Entry #34 temporary relief shelter[a transient architecture] as an ever present need, temporary shelters for displaced people are continually being used around the world. utilizing durable, lightweight material, a new typology for a shelter has been derived. highly transportable and rapidly deployable, these shelters are able to be re-used thousands of times over, moving from one place to the next in need. the shelter aids in the rebuilding process by becoming the centering, or form work for a new building. this is a new form of aid for displaced people.

Entry #38 TechStyle Living The ‘TechStyle Living’ prefabricated prototype merges environmental sensitivity and modern technology. With the rising costs of energy and materials, ‘TechStyle Living’ proposes an alternate method of construction through the utilization of prefab modules, carbon fiber textile framework, and green gear technology. All materials are chosen to be structural, energy renewable, environmentally efficient, and easily assembled; thereby reducing the embodied energy and environmental impact.

Entry #42 e-module The E-MODULE is a sustainable immediate response to housing demands during times of emergency and disaster. Each lightweight component is made from fiberglass which ensures ease of construction without any professionals or special equipment. It is completely flexible in that it can grow with an increasing population by simply adding more modules. It is centered on the idea of a communal utility core that is protected by surrounding hexagonal modules.

Entry #43 Fragmentation Revolutionary prefabricated house which could reduce the amount of material used as one house. Concept: If we could expand the old house for family growing or other purposes, why would we buy a new house or build a new one? Concerning about recycling ideas, which are not only reusing the garbage, but also means maximizing utilization of existent objects which is the key word of designing the fragmentation .

Entry #44 Second-Life Iraqi Housing: Temporary to Permanent The design I came up with consists of flat-packed, folding panels which are brought to the site by the marines along with the supplies they already bring. The structure can be quickly erected by the workforce of 36 marines during the night. This scenario was chosen due to the current situation of arriving by night, commandeering a home, fortifying the home with sandbags and weapons placements and having a defensible location for the morning.

Entry #46 OPEN OPEN is a project based off the idea that solving the problems of the many, by the many, through open source, peer-to-peer cooperation will solve our problems. Sustainable housing solutions will come from the help and cooperation of the many, rather the select few. Where rectilinear and uniform building models were part of the Industrial Age, this concept seeks to find the architecture of the Information Age, where not only mass production is important, but coupled together with customization.

Entry #57 Sustainable Prototype The Sustainable Prototype serves as an Arts Center in Greensburg, KS. The construction and delivery of The Sustainable Prototype was provided on the one year anniversary of the tornado that devastated Greensburg. Although the building was developed for the long term use by the Arts Center, its immediate use as the first completed public facility serving as a beacon for the community and its ambitious rebuilding efforts was a motivating factor in its design.

Entry #58 Porch Politics for the American Rust Belt An examination of the typology of the urban row house. A 2 bedroom owners unit is located on the garden level. The tenant's apartment is located on the "attic" level. The "porch" level is giving over to the community to alleviate day-to-day cares for the average single parent household of urban row houses in the American Rust Belt.

Entry #60 Temporality as Sustainability This project was designed as part of an upper level graduate studio and was approached from the point of view of a timeline. How does a building evolve over time? How can a building be made to exploit the benefits of time passing? How can the development of the city affect the development of the building? As time passes, the building changes. As the city densifies, the building on this inner block urban site dissipates, eventually leaving only a stainless steel trellis and public park land.

Entry #63 TriPod: A Plug and Play Housing System TriPod is a prototype house demonstrating the "Plug and Play" concept and is designed to provide an innovative alternative to the currently unimaginative housing industry. The principle of separating served and servant spaces is utilized by creating a mechanical "core" that acts as a motherboard that is able accept multiple "pods" that are living, cooking, and sleeping spaces. This modular design allows homeowners to change their homes by adding or subtracting pods to suit their needs over time.

Entry #64 ReCircle Sustainable Living Community The ReCircle Sustainable Living Community specifically addresses Life Cycle building concerns, from to building to deconstruction. Through creative design and use of locally recovered building materials, ReCircle addresses the real world issue of the desperate need for sustainable construction and lifestyle. ReCircle is a revolutionary community that offers creative solutions to large scale sustainable design dilemmas, reduces greenhouse gases, and can be easily disassembled for future use.
