Todays landfills are tomorrows mines
During residential remodeling projects there is usually an abundance of lumber and gypsum waste. The process of demolishing must shift to organized deconstruction for these ideas to work. Deconstructed gypsum board is used to create a fire-proof storage unit in a closet. Deconstructed lumber under 14" in length is cut into 1 1/2" pieces and used as butcher-block flooring tiles.

PROTOTYPE FLORIDA MIDDLE SCHOOL
Designed as a 1550 student station prototype Middle School, the facility is designed as a series of buildings that can be arranged in multiple, compact variations, providing optimal flexibility to fit any number of small, irregular infill sites. A design strategy was developed for maintaining a compact building footprint, sharing public exterior spaces, utilizing renewable and recyclable building materials and incorporating teaching tools in the architecture.

Life-Cycle Assessment Study of Buchanan Building-D
Originally built in 1960 as a multi-purpose classroom, Buchanan-D (5,090sm) is currently being renovated under the university’s Renew Program. The goals of the project are to meet the current and future academic needs, and optimize space to improve learning and research, while addressing the university’s deferred maintenance debt. As part of the project, a post-mortem life cycle assessment and salvage value cost estimate study was completed using the Athena Environmental Impact Estimator tool.

A Window on the World
Windows are a) the prime building components which allow us to experience our environment; b) places a building occupant may most effectively and visibly personalize their environment; c) respond more inadequately to changing technology and are likely be replaced and/or reclaimed over the life of the building. Two proprietary systems – the BioSaddlebag and LouveRedi windows - will allow windows to fully address a connection to the exterior, personalization, and eventual obsolescence.

Contextual Gardening
Contextual Gardening employs a variable system that may be 'plugged in' to existing contexts to boost an area's diversity and productivity. It may stand alone or be attached allowing for maximum flexibility. The idea is that the system doesn't make an opportunity, but makes an opportunity easier to accomplish.
